Ram Jhula constructed in the year 1986 is a suspension bridge that runs across the holy river Ganga and connects Shivananda Nagar, an area of Muni Ki Reti in Tehri Garhwal to Swargashram in Pauri Garhwal. It is located around 3kms north-east of the Rishikesh town in Uttarkhand. This bridge is constructed with a span of 750 feet. One can run motorbikes on this bridge. It is indeed one of the most iconic places to visit in Rishikesh. The bridge is built entirely out of iron. One can find several holy ashrams and Hindu religious centres and temples can be seen lining the side of the bridge. Visit these ashrams for the true essence of Rishikesh, for tranquillity and yes of course for a peaceful aura. History reveals that Ram Jhula was initially a bridge that was made up of strong jute ropes. It did not have any pillars to provide structural support in the beginning but later on, it was rebuilt with iron in the year 1986 by the PWD under government supervision. Due to its location in the spiritual and holy city Rishikesh, the name of the bridge is derived from the Aryan King-Lord Ram.

Several tourist visit this place every year and thus keeping this in mind there are innumerable shops and markets near the starting and ending point of the bridge. One eager to visit this splendid Ram Jhula can reach here through rail, air and by road. The nearest railway station is the Rishikesh railway station. After reaching the railway station one can hire an auto to reach Ram Jhula. The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant airport that is 22kms away. One can even reach here by own vehicle or by availing bus services. The aptest time to visit Ram Jhula is between February and May. Summers are hot and dry thus winters are more comfortable than summers.
