Kedarnath Dham is well connected to the major cities of India like Delhi (458 km), Mumbai (1880 km), Nagpur (1421 km), Chandigarh (387 km), Banglore (2484 km) and Rishikesh (189 km). You can opt for various means of transport like trains which you can board up to Haridwar, Kotdawar or till Dehradun. You can also opt for flights up to Dehradun.

Kedarnath By Road

If you are planning to go by road then you can opt for bus services, private cabs or even railway services. Following is the detail explanation to reach Kedarnath Dham by road.

How to reach Kedarnath From Delhi

From Delhi, you can take the bus going towards Haridwar every Half an hour. You can get the bus from the Kashmiri gate Bus stand. It will take about six to seven hours through the bus to reach Haridwar bus stand. The other option by road can be railways you can board the train from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station or any other railway station of Delhi and it will take about four to six hours to reach Haridwar railway station. Since the journey from Delhi to Haridwar is a bit long so the halt for a night is given in Haridwar itself. Here you can enjoy the evening Ganga aarti at Har-Ki-Pauri ghat. The next morning using cab, jeep or bus you can reach Gaurikund. The thing that is needed to be noted is that after 8 pm in the evening till 4 am in morning the roads from Rishikesh to Gaurikund remain close as the roads are not suitable to drive during the night time

How to reach Kedarnath from Haridwar

From Haridwar, you can opt or either bus, cab or jeep that will take you directly to Gaurikund. The booking can be made in advance from the Garhwal Mandal Owner Association Office located in front of the railway station. This journey will take one complete day but the tiredness of the trip will be gone when you will see the beautiful valley and mountains on your way. The total distance that is covered during this journey is about 240 km. The night halt is given in Gaurikund itself.

Kedarnath by private Car and Taxi

If you are taking you to own private cab for Kedarnath Dham yatra then the complete clearance check-up of the vehicle should be done are the way towards Kedarnath Dham is very rocky. Only a powerful engine can make up this way. There are two parking spaces in Gaurikund one is 100 km before and the other one is 500 Km before. Though the parking of the private vehicles is a bit tough but it can be managed after talking politely with the caretaker.

Gate system on the way to Kedarnath Dham

There is fatak (gate) in Sonprayag which is just 5 km below Gaurikund. This Fatak ensures that the vehicle that is passing should only pass in one direction wich is from Sonprayag to Gaurikund. Though by going on this way they are minimum traffic jams but, the time of the total journey also increases by 1 to 1.5 hours. So it is highly advisable to park the private vehicle at Sonprayag and from there you can take the sharing one for an onward journey.

From Gaurikund there is a distance of 14 km to Kedarnath Dham which can be covered either by trekking or with the help of Horses or doli system. This roa is connected to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dehradun and other hill stations of Uttarakhand. There are no fixed charges for Horses and dolies but you can book directly by checking the rates from the government rate chart for the best rate.

Rishikesh to Kedarnath Dham

From Rishikesh, you will move forward in your vehicle to Devprayag which is about 70 km and from there you will be forwarded to Srinagar and from Srinagar to Rudraprayag by covering the distance of 70 km. From Rudraprayag, you will be moving forward to Guptkashi by covering Tilwara, Agastya Muni Ashram, and Kund. Now from Guptkashi, you will move forward to Gaurikund by covering Phata, Rampur, and Sonprayag. From Gauarikund the trek will start to Kedarnath Dham and you will cover Rambara and Linchauli. After completing the trek your destination will be reached.

Kedarnath by Air

The nearest airport to Kedarnath Dham is Jolly Grant Airport of Dehradun which is about 239 km from Kedarnath Dham. This airport is also located close to Rishikesh which is about 16 km in the distance which can hardly be covered in 20 to 30 minutes. From Rishikesh, you can take a taxi or bus which will take you to Joshimath. The Airline connecting Delhi and Dehradun is The Kingfisher Airline

Kedarnath Yatra by Helicopter

Since the trek of Kedarnath, Dham is the hardest one so the helicopter service is also available to reach Kedarnath Dham. You can get a helicopter service from Dehradun, Guptkashi, Sirsi, Phata, and Sitapur.

Kedarnath by Train

You can board the train from your local area till Haridwar railway station or till Rishikesh Railway Station or you can also opt for Dehradun railway station or Kotdwar railway station but Kotdwar is having very less number of trains. The better option will be Haridwar railway station as it is just 25 km in distance from Rishikesh and is also well connected to the major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahemdabad, Amritsar and Madhya Pradesh, etc.
